Clockwerk is one of the meta-defining heroes in the current patch, at least in the professional scene, but his pub popularity is still pretty low in most skill brackets. Today, we would like to highlight the hero and maybe convince players to try him out, before he most likely gets nerfed. Spectre is easily the most consistent carry hero in the game right now, and it looks like a lot of players are struggling against her.
This tanky, surprisingly high-damage core has a decent laning stage, extremely versatile mid-game, and almost unparalleled late-game potential. So how exactly do you deal with the hero?
Valve continues to revamp matchmaking methods for Dota 2. The newest update has removed scaling MMR based on the relative skills of both.
Earlier today, Valve released a small patch which saw the addition of stats for Neutral items. A welcome quality of life chance, but then players started reporting a weird bug – they automatically gained or lost thousands of MMR points. From what we can tell, players who finished the match when Dota 2 coordinator was offline or right after the patch was released, are the ones who are primarily affected by this issue. If their last game ended with a victory, they gained thousands of MMR.
If they lost, they lost the same amount. Many have theorized that this is due to the server trying to process matchmaking data, over and over again but ultimately failing. Each time an iteration was run, MMR was distributed. Valve has not commented on the bug. The MMR shifts that have occurred due to this bug will likely be reversed by the game when they fix this issue. Vignesh Raghuram.
Earlier this month, Valve made some big Dota 2 matchmaking changes and introduced the Fast Queue system to alleviate the increasing queue times players have been suffering from. For the most part, it looks like the Fast Queue system is working extremely in Ranked matchmaking. Valve shared some interesting details about how the Dota 2 matchmaking is going right now. First up, the developer explained that for solo players who queue for just the Mid role in the Fast Queue, the average search time is 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
The new Dota 2 ranked matchmaking may affect you in an entirely different way. Find out the Dota Roles Update, picture via Dota 2 blog.
Valve has changed the Dota 2 ranked role matchmaking system once again. The latest update removed separate core and support ranks and merged them back into a single rank. It sounds like the good old days. But they also added something new. The matchmaking system will use your full MMR when a player queues for their best roles. But when they queue for weaker ones, the matchmaking system will place them into lower MMR matches.
For example, a player who predominately plays support roles might have an Ancient III badge. But when they queue core roles, their badge level will be reduced to Legend III. But the difference is that no matter which role they queue for and play, the result of the match will impact the same single MMR value rather than two different ones. Lately, it seems like matchmaking system changes happen every couple of months.
This time, an update brings a new MMR system that functionally gives players separate MMRs for each of the five roles included in ranked roles. Winning or losing games will modify your single rank. Though the return to a single MMR score might suggest that Valve is returning to the previous setup, this new system further segments things in ranked matchmaking. It should theoretically result in greater parity between teams, regardless of what role a player is assigned during the game.
Previously, the MMR system only distinguished between support and core, with core encompassing carry, mid, and offlane roles.

We understand that some players, especially at the high end, have experienced a significant drop in matchmaking quality as a result of our recent iterations. We are committed to making matchmaking as good as it can be. For any party that includes an Immortal player, every player in that party will be considered the same rank as the highest player in that party. We think this trade-off is worthwhile at this high level, however, because matches are unlikely to be of high quality anyways with extremely disparate skill levels within a party given the shallow pool available.
Such disparity has often made the games less fun for most players involved. We expect that this will have the net effect of reducing the number of party games at the highest skill levels by some amount, but compared to how infrequent high-MMR party games were in the past, the number of party games should still be higher than the historical average.
For any five-player party, they will now only be matched against other five-player parties, regardless of any other matchmaking consideration. We are unsure if an absolute requirement like this will result in net higher quality matchmaking due to the more limited opponent spectrum available in that case, but we know this is an aspect the community talks about often and we are going to do our best to work within those constraints. Similarly, any solo player will now only ever be considered for matches against at most one party of two.
This will be a hard requirement for the matchmaker instead of a situational consideration. We will be monitoring the system after release to make sure the fixes have the intended effect. It is possible that there will be more issues to work out, so if you notice anything too far off please let us know. While this gave some loose sense of progression, it made comprehension of what medals represent more difficult.
A comprehensive matchmaking system is an important factor in being able to enjoy playing Dota, regardless of which hero or role you prefer. Matchmaking involves various tradeoffs and our goal is to find the best balance between all the different factors. There are two major aspects with this change: 1 the teamplay and social aspect and 2 the value and correctness of the MMR value. For the teamplay aspect: We think it is really crucial for you to not have a disincentive to play with your friends.
The game currently overly emphasizes playing solo and establishes a strong social reward mechanism for this, which causes many players to prefer playing alone than with friends. We believe that bias has over time caused more negativity and unhappiness when playing Dota.

Winning or losing games will modify your single rank. When queuing for your best role s , the matchmaker will consider your full MMR. Queuing for your weaker role s , however, will result in the matchmaker placing you into a match at a lower MMR. When you match into a game, it will display the adjusted badge levels that were used to match each player.
Today’s Dota 2 update comes with a few minor fixes, as well as some rather larger changes to the way matchmaking works.
The first major change is that players must register a unique phone number to their account in order to queue for Ranked matches. Players using multiple accounts create a negative matchmaking experience at all skill brackets, so our goal is to add just enough friction to this process that the number of players doing this will be noticeably reduced. Having more players using their primary accounts will have a positive effect on both Ranked and Unranked Matchmaking.
There will be a two-week grace period from today during which players have time to register a number, but starting on May 4th, accounts without a registered number will no longer be eligible for Ranked play. If a phone number is removed from an account after registration, a new number can be added, but there will be a three-month waiting period before the removed number can be registered on a new account.
This is to prevent using the same number on multiple accounts. Online services that provide phone numbers are not allowed. With the return of the Solo Queue, solo players who enter Ranked Matchmaking can now choose to be matched only with other solo players. Any player who selects this option will be placed into matches where all ten players are queuing solo.
Simply having an even chance to win over the long run does not necessarily correlate to having competitive matches, but this change will make it so the matchmaker is able to take into account both the party teamwork skill component and the individual capability of the players on both teams. With both teams having this same mechanic applied to them, the chance for each team to win over a large sample will still be the same as before, but with reduced volatility on a per-match basis.
This update also includes several changes intended to remove undesirable behavior from the matchmaking pool. First, being marked for low-priority matches now results in a duration-based ban from the Ranked queue, in addition to the current game-count-based low priority requirement. The ban will start at a low threshold of a few hours, and increase up to four days for players who are very frequently in low priority.

Valve announced today that a new, experimental matchmaking algorithm for Dota 2 will break down MMR into a variety of categories. Today, Valve pushed some new changes to the Matchmaking system in Dota 2. Many players have criticized the current system, which probably played a role in Valve making the change. The main focus of the update is to improve team balance, player conduct, player behavior, curb account buying and more.
The end goal of the patch, according to Valve, is to make Dota more fun for players of all levels. Today’s update also includes some experimental changes which will last until the end of the current season. According to Valve, the reason behind this dramatic change is to increase both the teamplay and social aspects of Dota 2 while also correcting the player’s MMR values.
This change has the potential to improve matchmaking across the board; after all, Dota 2 is a team-based game.

Like any other competitive online multiplayer title these days, Dota 2 has its very own ranking system integrated into its own matchmaking queue. Ranked matches in Dota 2 put players into specified competitive tiers, in the form of leagues with associated medals. Winning games increases the count, and hitting percent causes the counter to roll over and award the player with an additional level.
The system will then place them in the next tier, with a one-star medal.

You may have noticed a small update today for your Dota 2 clients, this is because Solo Matchmaking is back, baby! Valve confirmed today that.
Dota 2 is played in matches between two teams of five players, with each team occupying and defending their own separate base on the map. Each of the ten players independently controls a powerful character, known as a “hero”, who all have unique abilities and differing styles of play. During a match, players collect experience points and items for their heroes to successfully defeat the opposing team’s heroes in player versus player combat. A team wins by being the first to destroy the other team’s “Ancient”, a large structure located within their base.
Development of Dota 2 began in when IceFrog , lead designer of Defense of the Ancients , was hired by Valve to create a modernized remake for them in the Source game engine. It was officially released for Microsoft Windows , OS X , and Linux -based personal computers via the digital distribution platform Steam in July , following a Windows-only open beta phase that began two years prior.
